Hand Trauma

what injuries are seen by the plastic surgery service?

Royal Devon and Exeter Trust Plastic Surgery Service accept the following injuries:

  • All soft tissue injuries including muscle, tendon, nerve and blood vessel distal to the elbow.
  • Bony injuries with or without associated soft tissue injuries distal to the carpus.
  • Dislocations of the carpometacarpal joints.
  • Fractures of the metacarpal bases that involve distal carpal bone avulsion fractures.

Orthopaedics see all closed carpal bone fractures, all closed carpal dislocations and all open and closed distal radial/ulnar fractures.

Open carpal bone fractures may need a joint plastic surgery and orthopaedic approach and should be discussed with both teams on call.
